Review

This movie gives a whole new perspective to one of America’s iconic presidents, Abraham Lincoln. This was a fun filled movie that does not take itself seriously in terms of being historically correct - obviously. It was purely fictional entertainment that I thoroughly enjoyed till the very end.

The movie was nicely paced and very well made, never failing to entertain you throughout with incredible action sequences - using both CGI and slow-motion FXs - along with some beautiful cinematography, fantastic costumes, breathtaking set designs and some superb acting performances thrown in. It was a real treat for the viewer’s senses.

Though this movie was purely fiction, it still bared some true resemblance towards the main man himself due to his overall image and the fact that he was studying law before following the path of politics which eventually landed him the seat as the sixteenth president of the United States. According to the movie, his role in politics was pretty much his part-time job from killing vampires. He was like, Abraham Van Helsing, but much more entertaining to watch. With these two names combined: Abraham Lincoln and Abraham Van Helsing, maybe this was the original inspiration for the entire concept of the original “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” novel before it became a movie – who knows?

The vampires in this story are far different from any other vampires you may have seen or heard of in any other story. For example:  they could walk during daylight as well as night and are only killed by weapons that hold a tip or blade coated in pure silver, or made entirely of pure silver, for that matter. This came as a surprise to me, as I thought only werewolves were killed by pure silver? Never mind. Rules are made to be broken – and in this case – completely forgotten about.

The CGI used in this movie– which this movie had a considerable amount of - really enhanced the suspense and thrill of the action. Though, sometimes it did look a little over the top when used during a few of the action scenes involving vampires. I prefer the good old fashioned special FX make-up and contact lenses along with a few wireworks here and there to perform stunt work. To me, that looks far more realistic than having vampires with CGI faces and digital FXs to throw them around or to perform superhuman abilities. But, this is just one’s personal opinion.

RATING: 7/10
